ajnath promises more funds for overhaul of India’s ‘miserable’ jails (15-11-2014)
NEW DELHI: Home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday promised to provide more funds to all states for modernization of prisons as conditions at most jails in the country are ‘miserable’. He also said that the Centre would focus on phase two of modernization of prisons from next financial year. Singh said he knew how pitiable the condition of jails was as he himself had experience of staying in jails. He said he was imprisoned 4-5 times in different cases and once he had spent 18 months in jail while in another occasion he was placed under solitary confinement for three months. Read more..
